Packaging sector plan

Climate | Circularity | Chain responsibility

About the commissioning party

For the Packaging Sector Plan — an initiative of Techniek Nederland and Fedet — we worked together with the installation companies affiliated with the association.

About the project

A lot of packaging is used in the installation chain to transport products safely. Unfortunately, this also creates unnecessary waste, additional logistics costs and a significant environmental impact. The sector wants to reduce its environmental impact while contributing to the government’s circular economy ambitions. For these reasons, a Sector Plan has been drawn up in collaboration with the market to reduce the amount of packaging waste for equipment, installation components and materials, to make it more sustainable, and to reuse it in the chain in a high-value way. In addition to the initiators (Schneider Electric, Federatie Elektrotechniek, Techniek Nederland), there are now more than 70 participants from various links within the chain.

Activities

We began by conducting a baseline measurement with a number of market parties to determine what ambitions and targets the Packaging Sector Plan could set. The targets were then outlined in the Packaging Sector Plan, which was signed by the very first parties in 2022. Since then, dozens of installation companies, manufacturers and wholesalers have signed up.

The signing heralded the start of the implementation phase of the Packaging Sector Plan. 2BHonest played a supportive role in the various ways of working, such as being a content sparring partner to the Steering Group, overseeing various pilot projects, organising (bi-)annual meetings for participants and contributing to communication releases.

Result

The Packaging Sector Plan is a resounding success! As much as 82% of plastic packaging is already being collected for recycling and 93% of cardboard packaging. The sector now uses 30% fewer stickers on packaging. And 89% of the cardboard used bears the sustainable FSC/PEFC label. We also see that more and more market parties are enthusiastically  joining the Sector Plan and are working within their own organisations or in working groups to reach the targets.

“2BHonest levert zowel inhoudelijk als organisatorisch een belangrijke bijdrage aan het Brancheplan Verpakkingen. Een hele prettige combinatie!”
